A knitting pin is a special device in the shape of a safety pin, used to remove unclosed loops of knitted fabric from the knitting needle, which are temporarily not involved in creating a pattern. They can be removed on a pin without fear that the loops will slip off. It is convenient to have loop holders of different sizes, because such a pin may be needed to remove a different number of loops.
